About Eco-Friendly Wood Flooring

What is Eco-Friendly Wood?

pristine and sustainable healthy forestWood can be a truly sustainable resource, but to realize that potential it must be sourced and produced responsibly. Eco-friendly wood can come from salvaged, reclaimed and recycled sources, or it can come from ecologically well-managed forests and plantations.

Reclaimed wood frequently refers to the direct reuse of wood products or logs that can be salvaged from a variety of sources such as old barns, railroad ties, dead orchards, and even forests (dead wood or small trees that are thinned out as part of fire prevention).

Why Choose Environmentally Friendly Wood Flooring?

It Preserves Our Environment.

Eco-friendly wood does not come from clear-cutting or from forests in which “high conservation values” are threatened. Clear-cutting exposes vast areas to insect infestations, disease, and mudslides. Plus, the lack of trees has a negative impact on climate change due to an increase of carbon. Selective sustainable wood harvesting protects the soil and the forest's balanced ecosystem.

It Protects Our Health.

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are chemicals that can become a gas at room temperature, affecting the interior air quality and has dangerous long-term health risks. One of the most common and dangerous VOCs is formaldehyde, which is used as an adhesive, bonding agent in many commercial, engineered wood floors. Building materials that contain high levels of formaldehyde are a major concern because they off-gas into building interiors and negatively affect interior air quality long after the products are installed. If you choose our unfinished or prefinished engineered wood flooring, you can rest assured that our adhesives are formaldehyde-free and the plywood used for the core is CARB Phase 2 compliant, making them no VOC.
